One-of-a-Kind Perspective

My background as a creative director, writer, editor, and marketing professional spans a variety of fields and contexts, allowing me to provide my clients with a unique POV. Here’s the full story, if you’re interested!

A creative and academic at heart, I knew my path after undergraduate and graduate school would not be teaching (yet, but someday), so I ventured into marketing and communications during the tech, social media, and smartphone cultural explosion of the 2010s.

As a digital native Millennial who grew up both pre-internet and during the early Wild West days, I found working in digital marketing to be a great synthesis of my interest in the online world, my writing and editing skills, my strategic thinking, and my creativity, along with my love of learning new things.

My earliest work included gaining experience in marketing and outreach at Boston-area organizations MathWorks and Green Corps, then joining content marketing startup Skyword, where I learned content marketing 101 as I finished up writing my MFA thesis.

I moved to Chicago, Illinois in late 2013 to pursue my career in the world of marketing and advertising agencies, where I gained professional experience in SEO content development, copywriting, creative direction, and brand management.

It was also an era of fantastic music, famously known for its epicenter in Brooklyn in the era of “GIRLS” on HBO, and it was also blooming in creative neighborhoods in Chicago, like where I lived in the “hipster” Logan Square along Milwaukee Ave. (I remain a proud “hipster” forever.)

Having worked extensively with literary journals in my MFA program, I started my own online magazine called Houseshow, where I wrote well-received long-reads and in-depth interviews about the indie music scene of local bands and touring acts, inspired by my immersion into the world of rock shows in local DIY venues, living rooms, and dive bars.

From documenting future viral bands like The Walters at their first show in a living room (who went onto have multiple-billion plays of their songs on Spotify and TikTok) to a chance meeting with rising indie superstar Father John Misty outside a bar and reading his Tarot cards after one of his era-defining shows (when I also learned he was published in my graduate school’s literary journal!), it was an exciting time for me as a music fan and writer.

I ultimately returned to my native Massachusetts in 2018 to devote my professional focus to mission-driven work in nonprofits and higher education, managing many functions of marketing and communications – from social media accounts, website content, and global Zoom conferences to creating suites of enrollment marketing materials and developing creative outreach strategies for prospective students.

I’m now offering my services and unique perspective to clients looking for a creative, strategic perspective for their brand marketing needs. Hit me up!

With a Little Help from My Friends

With a Little Help from My Friends *

I’ve been fortunate to interview, collaborate, and cross paths with some amazing artists and thinkers – here are some of the particularly notable ones to date.

During my first year as an MFA student at Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School in Boulder, and as an editor of literary journal Bombay Gin, I interviewed my Summer Writing Program professor, iconic countercultural musician, archivist, and writer, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth.

As a rabid music fan and founder of indie music and culture magazine Houseshow, I’ve crossed paths and had lively discussions over the past decade with one of today’s most creative, interesting, and kind personalities in music, Josh Tillman, aka Father John Misty. I’ve seen his shows in eight U.S. states and counting.

As a staff member at the New England Conservatory of Music 2022 commencement ceremony, I was honored to accompany legendary musician and composer David Amram: friend of my literary heroes, founders and namesakes of my MFA program, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. David is still thriving in his 90s!
